Today and tomorrow are the last two days of the MacKenzie Childs Artisan Festival in Aurora, NY. Come out to see me if you're in the area.
These snowmen are so stinking cute!!! It really brings ceramics and crochet together really embodying The Ceramic Knot. These hats and scarves were done with the ends of yarn that are just in these giant bags in my spare bedroom. It's fun to find a use for them. I'll have to figure out more ways that I can combine ceramics and crochet in the future.
All of these will be with me this weekend September 29th-October 1st at the MacKenzie Childs Artisan Festival in Aurora, NY.
I was originally thinking that I would glue on button eyes, but after I made the hats I felt like they weren't needed. I did try to put eyes on one of them when I was glazing, but with the coils it just looked weird so I stopped.
Some really cute fall and winter things in this kiln. The snowmen aren't done - stay tuned later this week. Also a couple of refires in here. I'm getting more confident about refiring work that I'm not happy with. If the answer is toss it or try again then the only thing I'm using is some more energy. The glaze chip plate in this glaze load is totally worth the second firing.
I'm glazing a lot right now as I get ready for fall shows. Things will slow down soon, but many of the things in this kiln will be with me this weekend September 29th-October 1st at the MacKenzie Childs Artisan Festival in Aurora, NY. Anyone near the Finger Lakes I hope to see you there.
The snowmen at the top of the kiln are exciting, but they aren't done yet. I plan on making them hats and scarves with some leftover yarn. I can't wait to see them.
Two more Squitches peaking from the top as well. I just love them so much. There are also a lot of crabs in here because I just can't seem to make enough!
There are a lot of big things in this kiln that came out amazing. I've made another globe leaf bowl that is awesome. I had a lily pad platter that I decided to go off script on that came out amazing. I'm also really pleased with my pumpkin bowl and platter.
Not a ton in this kiln because there are a few large items. I've made another leaf globe that you can see on the top that I'm super happy with. I love how these come together. They always look so cool.
I made another squiggle bowl with some leftover squiggles I had when I was making snowmen. I decided to make the colors on this one a little more muted.
This kiln also has the forbidden leaf mugs and some really large pumpkin platters that I can't way to see.
This is based on the Let it Bee Wrap from Heart, Hook, Home. However, instead of making a wrap I made a cute little cover up.
I wish I remembered what this yarn was. I've had it for years just staring at me. All I remember is that it was made with real silver in it. I had a couple of balls in my stash just laying there for a while and I decided to just figure something out. This is probably closest to a sport weight yarn and I used a 4.5 mm hook. You could easily make this with any yarn and just adjust the width and length to what you want it.
I still cast on 68 like the pattern said. I had 5 balls of the green and 4 of the silver. I did as many rows as I could with what I had off 2 balls of the green then switched to the silver. At the end with the last ball I was able to add 2 rows to each size and that still left me enough to sew it together. I ended up being able to 5 rows of green then 5 of silver ending with 2 rows of green. Make 2 identical panels. Again the exact length can vary based on your taste.
Once you have the two panels - sew it up. I wanted the neck to be fairly loose so I left a 13 inch neck and I left 7 inches for each of the sleeves. Unlike my usual patterns I didn't leave any slack on the side. This is because I wanted to finish it with a row of sc all the way around the bottom. I really like the way this turned out considering I started with no real plan :)
Some of my choices in here didn't quite pay off. I'm not sure that I'll have time to make more before the show at MacKenzie Childs at the end of the month so I'll have to go with what I've got because a couple of others turned out amazing.
