Kiln Sneak Peak 6/5

June 05, 2023

Not a ton of things in this kiln because of the giant vase. I'm so excited for the squiggle vase. It came out a little more muted than I thought it would, but I still love it. I'm also loving how the pitcher came out. I wasn't sure how cherry blossom would do on Laguna 60, but I really like it. Kiln Sneak Peak 6/5

Playing with Sprigs

June 03, 2023

I got these sprigs recently from Amazon. One of my coworkers wanted to do a commission in Pewabic style. I had to learn first what Pewabic is and there are a lot of sprigs of ginko and calla lily. I'm already big into calla lilies so I ended up buying them to experiment. I'm still not sure I can make my style of pottery Pewabic, but I do like how these are turning out. Playing with Sprigs

Cabin Weekend

June 01, 2023

We had a good long weekend at the cabin. The dogs had a lot of fun. We experimented more with letting Willow off the leash and she sort of listened most of the time. She's getting better though. River continued her journey as a water dog. She doesn't want to get wet initially, but once she's wet then it's game on and she'll just keep going in. Both dogs are totally warn out.

I will be at Carroll County Art in the Park this Saturday June 3 and the Belle Aire Market next Sunday June 11. Cabin Weekend

Mesh Flower Shirt

May 27, 2023

This pattern looks amazing, but is actually pretty simple once you get the hang of it. I got the stitch pattern from Crochet Kingdom. Mesh Flower Shirt

For this shirt I used Dragonfly Fibers Sylph Worsted in Love in a Mist. Each skein is 200 yards and I used 2 skeins - one for the front and one for the back. I used a 4.5 mm hook.

I cast on 55 + 7 and worked it until the yarn ran out. I then sewed it together leaving 8 inches for the arms and about 9 for the neck.

Kiln Results 5/22

May 25, 2023

Still can't get over how well this commission plate came out. I have been stressing about lemons and sunflowers for a few months, but it came out better than I could have hoped. Now the big thing will be shipping it to Arizona without it breaking!

I have a bunch of tests in here with the new Clayscapes glazes on a few different clay bodies. I made the decision to cut corners and not sieve. It wasn't a good decision, but it is what it is. It's hidden on the texture, but my ramen bowl is speckled in ways I did not plan. I'll need to go back and sieve them, but they are beautiful. They didn't quite come through on the Brown Bear. I think I might try another batch with 2 dips instead of one.

A good number of the crabs made it into this kiln and they look amazing as always.

Kiln Sneak Peak 5/22

May 23, 2023

This kiln finished right before I left for the workshop. How amazing is that platter! I'm really pleased with how it turned out after all the test pieces I did to get there. Kiln Sneak Peak 5/22
